INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — A west-side neighborhood was shaken early Monday morning after a domestic incident left a man in critical condition, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).
Officers were called just after 12:40 a.m. to a residence in the 5000 block of West Caven Street after receiving a 911 call from a woman reporting that she had shot her husband.
When police arrived, they found an adult male outside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to Eskenazi Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Neighbors described waking up to chaos.
“I heard yelling and then what sounded like several pops,” one nearby resident told reporters. “When I looked out the window, he was on the ground yelling for help.”
IMPD confirmed that the victim’s wife told arriving officers she was the shooter and cooperated as police took her to the City-County Building for questioning.
Detectives say two children, a 15-year-old and 6-year-old, were inside the home when the gunfire erupted. Neither child was injured, but authorities say they were visibly shaken.
“We’re grateful the children weren’t physically hurt,” an IMPD spokesperson said. “Our detectives are working to understand what led up to this tragic event.”
The investigation remains ongoing as police review evidence, interview witnesses, and work to determine what sparked the shooting.
